Derek Fell : A Picture Story of Life

This website is dedicated to the memory of my late wife Cherry Fell

Poole Museum

I started this website from scratch in January 2009. It sort of tells a story of the places that I've been,in pictures, my career, and where I now live in Poole, Dorset.

In 1958 I started a 5 year apprenticeship, as an Electrical Fitter, with the then Southern Electricity Board. In those days it was state owned.

My starting pay was 11¼d (eleven pence and one farthing) an hour,

which was £1/10/6d per week. ( £1.50.5  One pound fifty and a half pence)

I was based at Bourne Valley, Poole, Dorset. Just over a mile from where

I lived in Rossmore Road, with my parents.

When I completed my apprenticeship in 1963 my pay was almost £10 a week!

I got married in 1964 and in 1966 I emigrated to Perth, Western Australia as a £10 Pom, with my wife, Cherry and 18 month old daughter, Belinda.
